Come fish the picturesque Upper Connecticut River Valley. Find solitude and tranquility along some of Vermont and New Hampshire’s most idyllic freestone rivers. Seasonal variability provides opportunities to pursue picky wild rainbow trout on dry flies, aggressive brown trout on big streamers, and sight fish for smallmouth bass in mere inches of water with frogs and large foam terrestrials. Other angling opportunities include pursuing tenacious native brook trout in Vermont’s fabled Green Mountains and chasing the region’s largest predatory fish, northern pike. The combination of these species in scenic New England creates a can’t-miss angling opportunity that should be on every angler’s bucket list.
Owen has dedicated his life to the pursuit and protection of these remarkable species. He enjoys sharing the wonders of fly fishing with people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels, and has something to offer every angler. Owen is an active Trout Unlimited board member and volunteers with Hope on the Rise, Project Healing Waters, Vermont Youth Trout Camp, and several other local conservation organizations.

Seasons and conditions play a huge role in fish behavior and availability, and fish are always the wild card. The Connecticut River Valley and its tributaries offer a myriad of fly fishing opportunities set against some of New England's most beautiful scenery. From large tailwaters to tiny mountain streams, the diversity of fisheries and trip options is exceptional. Multi-species float trips are common, and it’s not unusual to find rainbow trout, brown trout, smallmouth bass, walleye, fallfish, and northern pike inhabiting the same stretches of river, depending on the season and water temperatures. There truly is a trip for every angler.
While wading is an option, I find these fisheries are best accessed by raft and drift boat. The rivers in this region are rocky freestones that can be challenging to navigate on foot for some anglers. Boat trips range from 4–8 miles, giving us ample opportunities to find fish. Rafts offer maximum versatility and access on mid-sized and smaller rivers where put-ins and take-outs are limited. We can draft in less than 4" of water while still maintaining the stability and safety needed to run Class III rapids. Hard-sided drift boats on lakes and larger stretches of the Connecticut River offer maximum fishability and angler comfort. Both boats provide outstanding opportunities for sight fishing and improved fly presentation compared to wading. They also offer a comfortable, scenic ride, especially during fall foliage season.
Rates range from $300 for half-day wade trips to $650 for full-day float trips. Float trips are limited to two anglers per boat, and wade trips are limited to four anglers per guide. Additional guides and boats may be available to accommodate larger groups. Casting lessons, corporate outings, family groups, and custom trips are available and are priced per person or quoted upon request.

It depends! Seasonal conditions dictate fishing opportunities. We’ll work together before your trip to determine which waters best match your goals and what’s fishing well at the time. If we’re fishing the Connecticut River or other New Hampshire waters, you’ll need a New Hampshire fishing license. Most other trips take place on Vermont tributaries and require a Vermont fishing license.
Whenever works best for you! We offer a wide variety of fishing opportunities throughout the season. While there are certainly “better” times to target specific species or techniques, it all depends on what you hope to get out of our time together. Education is always at the forefront of my guiding, and every season offers something unique to learn. As one opportunity closes, another begins. Let me know what your ideal day on the water looks like, along with any preferred species, techniques, or watersheds, and we'll build the trip around your goals.
I provide everything you’ll need for a day of boat-based fishing, including Orvis rods and reels, Scientific Anglers fly lines, Fulling Mill hooks and terminal tackle, my custom-tied flies, and Smith Optics eyewear. I also have a limited selection of waders and boots available for wade trips. For safety, I prefer clients not wear waders while fishing from the boat. You’re welcome to bring any personal gear you’d like, but please leave studded boots at home for float trips.
Unlike the western U.S., we don’t have local shuttle services, so a client vehicle is needed for shuttle logistics. Depending on the river section and launch location, we’ll either leave my vehicle at the takeout after launching the boat or swap vehicles at the end of the trip.
